The government of Canada is implementing a temporary Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC) to provide some much needed economic stimulus and to encourage investments in Canada's housing stock. The HRTC will apply to goods acquired and services performed after January 27th, 2009 and before February 1st, 2010. The credit is only temporary to provide immediate incentive for you to undertake new renovations or accelerate your plans for a project. The HRTC can be claimed on alterations to a dwelling or the land on which it sits. Examples of eligible and relevant expenditures include:

• Building a deck, fence or retaining wall
• Resurfacing a driveway
• Laying new sod
• etc...

Ineligible

• Maintenance contracts (lawn care, snow removal, pool cleaning etc.)
• Tree care
• Annuals
• Hanging baskets, containers & planters
