Tips & hints
| Water your lawn efficiently this year! |
|---|
Most people over water their lawn. This leads to shallow roots, fungus & lawn disease, and creates ideal growing conditions for weeds. Your lawn only needs 2.5cm (1 inch) of water per week, including rainfall.
Follow these tips to maximize the efficiency of the water and save money on your water bill! |
| Importance of Aerating |
Over time the soil in your lawn becomes compacted from foot traffic and roots become tangled and matted. Thatch builds up on the top layer of soil and blocks water and nutrients from reaching the roots. Aerating will remove thatch and reduce ground compaction, loosening the soil to allow air, water and nutrients to reach the roots. It will also sever tangled roots, breaking them apart and encouraging new root growth. Aerating reduces drainage problems due to hard, compacted soil and encourages bare patches to grow. Aerating once a year is suggested, the best time to do so is during the spring although it is beneficial anytime during the growing season. CONTACT US to have your lawn aerated! |
| Top Dress & Seeding |
Top dressing your lawn is an excellent way to build a natural and healthy lawn and is essential for fixing bare spots. Spreading quality topsoil over the lawn adds organic matter and nutrients, improving the existing soil conditions. It will level out low spots giving your lawn a more smooth, flat look. Spreading grass seed with the soil will thicken up the lawn making less room for unwanted weeds. The best times to top dress & seed are in the spring and fall. Ensuring the seeds stay moist for several days following the top dressing will allow for optimum growth. CONTACT US to have your lawn top dressed and seeded! |
